Into the city

Chat Japanese Tokyo is a short-term Japanese school for travelers. You first build practical conversation skills with a friendly local teacher in a cozy café, then take those phrases straight into the city.

Practice real Japanese at places like Tsukiji Market, Asakusa street stalls, local shops, Meiji Shrine, and Sensō-ji Temple — while learning Japanese manners, history, and culture from someone who actually lives here.

Four ways to learn & explore

From a single focused week to a fully private tour — choose the experience that fits your trip.

What makes our approach
truly different

Conversation-first Japanese learning

Conversation First

No textbooks, no grammar drills. Our lessons are built around real situations — ordering at a local restaurant, chatting with shopkeepers, navigating the city. You'll be speaking from day one.

Café lessons and city walk in Japan

Café Lessons × City Walk

Our classroom is a cozy local café. After the lesson, we hit the streets together — discovering Hidden Gems that tourists never find. We explore them side by side, just like locals do.

100% local Japanese instructors

100% Local Instructors

Every single one of our instructors is a local Japanese person. Not just teachers — they're your guides to the real Japan. Their insider knowledge, stories, and connections are part of the curriculum.

Learn as you move.
Move as you learn.

Why choose between sightseeing and studying? Each course is built around a city — so your classroom is the city itself.

What our students say

Real words from travelers who learned with us.

Australia

Tai was such a professional teacher — patient, warm, and genuinely invested in how I was doing. Within a week I went from freezing up at the convenience store to actually joking with the staff. The café lessons never felt like a classroom; they felt like meeting a friend who happened to be teaching me Japanese.

United States

I'd spent months on apps and could barely say a word. Two mornings of walking the neighbourhood and ordering lunch in Japanese did more than all of that combined. Being taken to the places where people actually live — not the tourist spots — completely changed how I saw Tokyo.

What surprised me was how natural it felt. We'd learn a few phrases over coffee, then use them an hour later at a tiny local shop. The teachers remember exactly what you struggled with and bring it back the next day. I left with real confidence — not just a list of words.
