Conversation First

Course Overview

Four days. The Japanese you actually need.

The 1-Week Course is built for travelers who are short on time but still want to connect with Japan on their own terms. Over four weekday mornings, you'll build the conversational foundation that makes a real difference — ordering at a restaurant, introducing yourself, navigating a convenience store, reading the room.

Lessons are small-group and conversation-first, held in a relaxed Tokyo café environment. No textbooks, no memorization drills — just practical Japanese shaped around your trip.

Mon – Thu, 3 hours/day — mornings only, afternoons free to explore
Absolute beginner friendly — no prior Japanese required
Cultural exchange included — meet local Japanese speakers in every session

Many students upgrade to the Intensive Course — for just +$85, you also get Saturday & Sunday cultural activities (sushi making, shodo, matcha ceremony) included.

Beyond the Classroom

Your classroom is the city

Lessons don't end when you leave the café. Every morning session is designed to be applied immediately.

Café-Based Learning

Sessions are held in local cafés — a relaxed, real-world setting that puts you in the mindset of a conversation, not a classroom.

Immediate Field Practice

After each lesson, you head out into the city with the phrases you just learned. Markets, trains, izakayas — the city is your practice ground.

Local Connection

Each session includes time with local Japanese speakers — not scripted exchanges, but genuine conversations that build real confidence.

Into the city

Chat Japanese Tokyo is a short-term Japanese school for travelers. You first build practical conversation skills with a friendly local teacher in a cozy café, then take those phrases straight into the city.

Practice real Japanese at places like Tsukiji Market, Asakusa street stalls, local shops, Meiji Shrine, and Sensō-ji Temple — while learning Japanese manners, history, and culture from someone who actually lives here.

Tai was such a professional teacher — patient, warm, and genuinely invested in how I was doing. Within a week I went from freezing up at the convenience store to actually joking with the staff. The café lessons never felt like a classroom; they felt like meeting a friend who happened to be teaching me Japanese.

I'd spent months on apps and could barely say a word. Two mornings of walking the neighbourhood and ordering lunch in Japanese did more than all of that combined. Being taken to the places where people actually live — not the tourist spots — completely changed how I saw Tokyo.

What surprised me was how natural it felt. We'd learn a few phrases over coffee, then use them an hour later at a tiny local shop. The teachers remember exactly what you struggled with and bring it back the next day. I left with real confidence — not just a list of words.

One week. A lifetime of conversations.

$245 per week — mornings only, no preparation needed.
